All buyers want to be confident that their decision to buy a home is going to be a good deal and beneficial for them. So, it is important to know the red flags to watch out for when buying a home to avoid unnecessary stress and bad deals in the future.
Here are some red flags to look for when home buying.
The home has a strong or different smells.
Air quality is important when choosing the home to buy. Nobody wants to live in a home that smells bad. If the home smells very strongly of air freshener, perfume or something else, it can be a red flag. It may be because they are hiding a not so pleasant smell in the home and they covered it with a stronger smell. It may come from the carpet from a lingering pet and cigarette smoke, or mold or water damage which requires extensive repair and cost to fix.
The home is priced too low.
There may be a reason why they priced it unusually low which can be a red flag. Be sure to thoroughly inspect the home before it’s too late. Check if there are major issues, visible and invisible, that can bring unforeseen expenses to the new homeowner.
Fresh paint, new carpet and nothing else
This can be a red flag as the seller may be trying to hide something. Look out for any water damage or any problems hiding behind it. Always look from the roof up to the basement of the house you are eyeing to buy.
Who wants to live in a bad neighborhood? Are they loud and near the highway where you can hear traffic noise? Is the neighborhood rundown? It may signal that houses and yards are not being taken care of in that area. Are there any graffiti around? Is it too far? How's the local crime? Keep in mind that your neighborhood has a huge impact on your house value.
